Amidst the Appalachians in Northwest Georgia is Riverview Farm, a family owned and operated, certified organic farm that raises pork, cattle, and various seasonal vegetables. Purchased by Carter and Beverly Swancy in 1975, the 200-acre farm is currently run by their son Wes and his wife Charlotte. On their farm, Wes and Charlotte believe in sustainability and organic farming. Upon their return to the farm, they began to replace their father’s commodity crops with organic tomatoes, eventually taking over the entire farm. Soon after, they became the largest certified organic farm in all of Georgia. With such a serious commitment to ethical farming practices, its no surprise that Riverview Farms is effectively self-sustaining, with the animals fertilizing the same pastures on which they graze and with the eventual sale of their meat allowing for the growth and continued development of the farm.
As the farm grows, Wes and Charlotte are continuing to forge ahead, working towards both becoming Certified Humane and approved by the Food Alliance.
