Dear Heritage Foods USA Supporter,

We're pumped for paw paws!

It's that time of year again when the short season for ripe paw paws begins! On top of having one of the most endearing names in American fruit history, the paw paw has a creamy, citrusy taste. Imagine two star-crossed lovers: banana and apple. It also happens to be one of the most nutritious native fruits, outrunning pears, apple and grapes in vitamins and amino acids!

The Fruit
The paw paw is a native fruit, grown from Southern Michigan to Georgia, from Kansas to the Atlantic coast. We're proud to have Jim Davis's paw paws of Deep Run Paw Paw Orchard in Westminster, Maryland, where his family has been growing the paw paw for over thirteen years. He currently grows six different varieties, each with its own twist on the classic paw paw flavor:

1. Susquehanna – sweet, mild
2. Alleghany – sweet, mild
3. Overleese – sweet and fruity
4. Shenandoah – sweet tasting, fruity flavor
5. Pennsylvania Gold – Stronger flavor
6. Taytwo – Stronger flavor

Each box we send has every fruit separately sleeved and labeled with the varietal. The paw paws will ship via FedEx overnight. Your tracking number will be emailed on the day it ships.

Delivery will be Thursday Sept 1 or Thursday Sept 8.
If you need to receive another day, call us at 718-389-0985 and we will make it happen.
10lbs (12-15 fruit) $111 – including overnight delivery.

How to eat paw paws
The fruit arrives ripe, and should be eaten within one to two weeks. You can keep it in the fridge for up to a week, but should be allowed to finish ripening at room temperature. Ripe paw paw flesh can be pureed and frozen for later use, but remember, do not eat the skin or seeds. Try it in a pie or as an ice cream! And the paw paw makes a great substitute for bananas. Tasting something like a cross between a mango and a banana, the paw paw is one of America's true heritage varietals.
