When Heritage Foods USA first formed, it was a mail order business to home chefs like you. In 2005 a chef by the name of Mark Ladner and his partners Mario Batali and Joe Bastianich encouraged Heritage Foods to begin a wholesale business to supply their restaurants like Lupa and Del Posto, which had not yet open. Today, thanks to their support, we have grown to process over 200 pigs each week! And this past week Del Posto became the first Italian restaurant to receive four stars by the New York Times since 1974! We congratulate the team at Del Posto for their amazing talent and dedication and thank them for supporting so many networks of small family farms! Click here to read the review.
An important new book edited by Daniel Imhoff is about to hit bookstores. CAFO (Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations): The Tragedy of Industrial Animal Factories contains 30 essays by today’s leading thinkers on one of the most important environmental and ethical issues of our time. Contributors include Michael Pollan, Wendell Berry, Fred Kirschenmann, Anna Lappé, Matthew Scully, Eric Schlosser, Andrew Kimbrell, and Wenonah Hauter. These essays analyze and vividly depict the devastating impacts and current conditions in and around factory farms. Please click here to read more.
On October 9th and 10th our friends in the Catskills are organizing a big event. The Taste of the Catskills, Food, Wine, and Beer Festival is a family-friendly event that will showcase the food, beer, and wine of the region. For more information visit http://www.tasteofthecatskills.com
And of course, as with every email we write we sell something. One of our mantras at the office is that the best way to help a farmer is to buy from him! So today we feature Certified Humane 6-Spotted Berkshire and Animal Welfare Approved Red Wattle Bone-in Boston Butt, Boneless Boston Butt and Half Bone-in Boston Butt. Also Piedmontese Brisket and Half Briskets! And of course, Turkeys.
Stay tuned for salmon, gift packages and our 2010 gift catalog in the mail!
Thank you for your support.
